10 Ways to Make Your 9-to-5 Less Stressful

Though your job probably isn’t the source of your greatest stress, it can certainly contribute to it.

Relax Your Body

As human beings, we tend to tense up in response to stress. This is called "stress-induced muscle tension".

Basically, this means your muscles, tendons, ligaments, and tendons all become tight, and you have to consciously relax them.

This is where yoga and meditation come in, especially yoga because it's a non-hierarchical system of communication, and for meditation because it requires you to calm down completely, which will naturally bring you into a state of relaxation.

Not only does it help your body relax and reboot, but it also helps to clear your mind, which is necessary for productivity.


Unplug

It’s incredibly hard to get away from your computer and cell phone every time you step away from your desk, but that shouldn’t stop you from trying.

Leave some time for yourself, If you’re stressed, even if you don’t want to, your best bet is to talk to someone about it.

Instead of checking your emails or Facebook account, spend your 30-minute lunch break with yourself. Rather than scrolling through social media, step away and take in the fresh air.

Get the Right Furniture

If you’re in an office cubicle, furniture in your area should not be in your way. A cozy corner office is just fine—as long as your desk is in the right place, and your chair isn’t too big.

It can get uncomfortable fast, rethink your space If your workspace is hot, cluttered or overcrowded. 

There’s a good chance you’re bound to be a lot more stressed at your desk than you would be if you had a smaller, cleaner, more streamlined space. 

Get Organized

If you have an easy to access calendar or schedule, keep everything you need to get through the day and into your life in one place.

Make a list of things that you want to accomplish on a daily basis, and then choose your priorities. If there’s an assignment you’d like to finish, but don’t feel ready to tackle, delegate it.

By consolidating tasks into one location, you’ll free up mental space for other things, such as stress relief.

Taking regular breaks is good for your brain. shorter breaks may improve your productivity but take longer ones if you need to take a breather. 

Say No

When you have too much work to do, resist the urge to say yes. Saying yes can lead to resentment, stress, and a feeling of always being behind.

If you don't have time for something, it's better to say no. Be careful about what you agree to help with.

If your workload is uncomfortably full, check if a task is part of your job description. If it isn't, say no in a respectful way.

Set Boundaries

There are ways to delegate some of your tasks, but it’s often not as efficient or effective as having a single person focus on your workload.

Say NO! If you’re feeling overwhelmed with work, try getting rid of some of the projects you don’t want to do. 

Write everything down, and then prioritize what needs to get done. It will help to set some boundaries, and prevent you from getting stressed out. 


Maintain A Healthy Lifestyle

Taking care of yourself and living a healthy lifestyle can do wonders for your stress level.

Get to the gym three to four days a week, start exercising regularly, and stay away from stress-inducing foods like chocolate and alcohol.

You’ll soon find that your days at the office are more enjoyable and you have more energy when you get home.  

Take a nap

Your brain is designed to spend one-third of every day asleep, and a napping study at the sleep foundation discovered that people who spent naps sleeping were able to get over stress far quicker than those who didn’t.

Plus, napping can make you feel great for the next day, which can help you to reset any unnecessary expectations you have for yourself that may have gotten out of hand.


Connect with Coworkers

Not everyone works with a team of coworkers, but even if you aren't, it can still be helpful to work with others every once in awhile.

Be curious about others and open up to others. A little friendly competition or friendly competition on someone else's behalf can bring a little fun and satisfaction to your day.
